The 2019 historical survival horror game A Plague Tale: Innocence has just been announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X with upgraded visuals and sound next month. The enhanced edition will feature 4K UHD visuals, gameplay locked at 60 frames-per-second, and 3D audio support for a more immersive experience in this dreary piece of historical horror.
The game is reportedly also coming to Nintendo Switch via a cloud version, which will allow Switch users to play through Innocence digitally using state-of-the-art cloud streaming technology. Several other titles have come to the Switch via cloud versions, including games like Resident Evil 7, Control, Hitman 3, and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Though these cloud versions of games have gotten mixed receptions from critics and fans, it is nice to at least see some of these more graphically demanding games come to the platform in some form. All three new versions of A Plague Tale: Innocence are set to release later next month.
A Plague Tale: Innocence takes place in Medieval France during the height of The Black Plague, where protagonist Amicia and her young little brother Hugo must escape certain death in one of the darkest periods of human history. Playing as a young woman, the player must think strategically in order to avoid Inquisition soldiers and diseased rats in this historically-inspired survival horror game.
This new release comes just off the heels of the announcement of A Plague Tale: Requiem, which is the direct sequel to Innocence. Requiem was just announced at E3 2021, with the new game reportedly releasing as exclusives for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. The new game will be a direct sequel to Innocence, with Amicia and Hugo returning as the protagonists, as the player explores the continuation of their journey from the first game. Not many details are yet known about the sequel, other than the fact that it will provide a deeper look into the Bubonic Plague and hopefully provide an end to both Amicia and Hugo’s tragic story.
