On May 31st, 1939 Games, the developer behind KARDS, released the latest expansion to the card-based game. Legions introduces the Polish fighting force as a new ally nation, giving players 80 new unique cards alongside advanced gameplay mechanics. Numerous abilities and features have also been added to give the new nation a unique style and provide players with a fresh experience. The new gameplay mechanics are inspired by the Polish forces and their significant role in World War II when Polish troops fought within and outside of Poland, serving across multiple campaigns with great distinction. Overall, the new Legions expansion expands on the gameplay of KARDS, providing new historical mechanics and abilities that players can use in-game.
Expanding Upon Historical, Strategic Gameplay
With the addition of Poland as a playable nation, the game introduces two new abilities - Intel and Exile. Intel is a new keyword that allows you to get information on your opponent’s hand and cards. This feature is loosely inspired by Poland’s military intelligence gathering and crypto-analysis experts deciphering the German’s famous Enigma code before and during World War II. Exile is the ability to enable units to be played as if they are a part of a nation in exile. The Polish pilots that famously fought in the Battle of Britain come to life through the Spitfire MK V and can be deployed into battle as either a Polish or British unit with the use of the Exile ability.
The expansion also brings fresh frontline reinforcements for players to devise new strategies. The British M3 Grant medium tank packs a powerful defensive boost for commanders. At the same time, the American SB2C Helldiver causes havoc to an opponent’s strategy by adding a copy of the unit to a player’s hand. KARDS: Legions helps expand the game’s historical relevancy with a new nation ripped right from the annals of World War II history.
Impact of the Historical World War II Card Game
KARDS has attracted over half
a million players worldwide and witnessed a total of more than 30 million
battles since it went into Early Access in 2019. KARDS has secured over
18,600 ‘Very Positive’ reviews on steam. 1939 Games, the studio behind KARDS,
has remained proud and continued to support the World War II Card Game,
with new players coming to the battlefield every year. The game still attracts 60,000
monthly players that delve into the new and old content. As KARDS proves,
not every historical game needs to be racked with explosions.
