Ad Infinitum, a new historical horror game, brings players to the trenches of the Great War and pits them toe-to-toe with the many horrors associated with the war. Players take the role of a German soldier haunted by the horrors of the war. From death traps, terrible creatures, and insane mysteries to unravel, Ad Infinitum promises to bring a horror experience unlike any other entrenched in history. While much information has yet to be announced, upcoming features and what the game will possibly look like have been detailed on developer Hetake’s website and social media. This upcoming release will bring these historical scares to players’ doorsteps sometime in 2023.
A Bridge Between Horror and History
Ad Infinitum brings an unlikely mix of genres. While some historical horror games exist in the market, they don’t all have a firm grip on the real horrors that gripped specific events. Ad Infinitum is a first-person survival game that aims to immerse themselves in a world ravaged by war around them. The game features state-of-the-art visuals and audio, challenging puzzles embedded in the historical setting, historically authentic equipment and environments, stealth interaction with horrific creatures, a thrilling storyline, and a dynamic changing world based on player interactions. Along with the many gameplay elements, Hekate shared screenshots of the new monsters that roam the trenches and add to the fear-inducing experience that players will get from Ad Infinitum.
An Unlikely Mix of Genres
With what’s been shown so far, Ad Infinitum looks like it will provide players with a unique historical horror experience told from a relatively unique perspective. Unlike most World War I titles, which focus on Allied efforts, Ad Infinitum is told through the eyes of a German soldier haunted by the war waged around them. Similar titles like the upcoming Finsterwald delve into what makes historical horror fun for gamers, provoking an ever-changing experience ripe with horrific monsters and an eerie world. Though Hekate recently went through a period of silence, its emergence promises more information on the horizon as development continues.
