For those unfamiliar with the title, Chivalry 2 is an online medieval warfare simulator, where players fight as medieval warriors in first-person combat against other players online. The game is one of the biggest historical video games to be released in 2021, featuring beautiful, highly detailed 3D graphics and extremely gorely violence. While the game largely focuses on action gameplay over the historical parts of the game, it still is a shining example of what historical video games are capable of.
Torn Banner Studios, the developers behind the upcoming historical video game Chivalry 2: Online Medieval Warfare, has just announced that their game has officially gone gold and is scheduled for a June 8 release. “Going gold” is a term in the video game industry that means a game has completed its production. Since the original Chivalry launched in 2012, gamers have been anxiously awaiting the sequel, which was finally announced a few years ago.
Chivalry 2 also aims to be bigger and better than its predecessor. New battle mechanics are included, such as being able to ride horses and being able to dismember another player and use their body parts – human skulls, arms, legs, etc – in battle.,. Online battles will also be much larger this time around, with players able to take part in battles with up to 64 players in total. This is a huge step up over the first Chivalry, which only featured 32-player battles.
Among a slew of new features, one of the most exciting additions for Chivalry 2 is the game’s crossplay function, where players will be able to play with each other across all major gaming consoles. Since it was first introduced a few years ago, crossplay has become increasingly prominent and more major titles like Chivalry 2 have included it.
Chivalry 2 recently finished its final open beta, and with the game just going gold, it is getting closer to its release date. Gamers won’t have to wait long before Chivalry 2 makes its way to store shelves as the new game is slated to release June 8 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and Microsoft Windows.
While Torn Banner Studios is mainly known for creating the Chivalry games, publisher Tripwire Interactive possesses a portfolio of many different titles, including Killing Floor 2, Maneater, and Espire 1: VR Operative.
