The 2020 turn-based strategy game Total War Saga: Troy recently received a brand-new DLC pack, the Ajax and Diomedes faction pack. This new downloadable content pack is exactly what it sounds like: it adds historical figures Ajax the Great and Diomedes as new playable factions into the base game. This new content update follows the Amazons expansion, released last September, and the Halloween-themed Blood Pack from last October.
The Ajax and Diomedes faction pack adds in Ajax, ruler of the city of Salamis, and Diomedes, the newly crowned King of Argos. The two new factions each have two brand new faction mechanics as well as new unit rosters. The downloadable content pack also adds a new Troy event called “Stealing the Palladium,” a new campaign map, a new battle map, and more.
Finally, the new DLC adds in ‘Paragon’ units, which are, according to the game’s official FAQ, “extra special with strong stats, attributes, and aura abilities who are led by a seasoned veteran.” This is about the extent of everything players know about Paragon units so far, other than the fact that Diomedes can create Paragon units by combining regular units with a chosen set of buffs.
This new downloadable content recently dropped on January 28 alongside a free update that fixes various bugs; adds in Haephestus, the God of Blacksmiths and Volcanoes; and the Divine Craftsman epic agent. All of this content is available for players now. For those wishing to pick up the Ajax and Diomedes faction pack, it can be found on the Epic Games Store for purchase right now at $9.99.
Total War Saga: Troy is the most recent entry into the long-running Total War franchise. The series has visited countless different historical periods from Ancient Rome to the American Revolution. The franchise has even gone into fictional universes, with the popular Total War Warhammer sub-series.
The series visits Ancient Greece in Total War Saga: Troy, a previously unexplored but long-requested historical period by fans. The game brings to life both historical figures as well as various myths and legends from that era of history. The game was received quite positively upon its initial release.
Total War Saga: Troy originally launched back on August 13, 2020, for Windows PC. The game was released as a timed exclusive for the Epic Games Store, with it planned for other storefronts like Steam. The Steam store will allegedly receive the full game and all of the released DLC, but not until August 2021.
The game was developed by Creative Assembly Sofia and published by SEGA. Some of Creative Assembly Sofia’s previous work includes Knights of Honor, WorldShift, and Total War: Rome II. For those wanting more from the Total War series, it was recently announced that Total War: Warhammer III would be arriving sometime later this year, serving as the final entry into the Total War: Warhammer trilogy of games.
